No govt or private authority can do anything in this matter. Yes they can take strict actions in order to lower the crime rate against women but cannot make it zero. That has to be done at home itself. People need to teach the boys in their family on how to respect a woman be it your sister, mother, daughter, neighbor, classmate…anyone. Teach them that we are not a sex object.

Not that easy Sweta. Remember there was a case few months back where few locals of a cricket team in Noida attacked two girls and raped one of them.

The mothers of the culprits defended their sons by saying “its not a big deal if a girl is raped”. I could not believe my ears, a woman saying that.

Not just men, even women are to be equally blamed for the bad state of women in our country.

Anusha Mam,

I agree with all of what you wrote here. It is a bitter pill but it is the truth. My point of concern is what exactly is the solution to this huge problem?

In my opinion, the problem lies in the way of upbringing our offspring. I mean that parents specially mothers should teach their children(in this case boys) to cultivate respect for the fairer sex. This sounds easy but it is not followed in our society.

If a young child(boy) is taught to give respect to other children(girls) of the family and outside, then this problem can be cured. Normally, in our society it is seen that girls are not treated equally from the beginning and not just by the male members but their mothers and female members as well. This has to be changed for a healthier and more civilized society and culture.

I don’t know whether I am able to convey my message, but I am sure this is a fool-proof solution.

Giving respect to a fairer sex is a good thing and can help but until we don’t change our attitude towards girls we can’t get the final solution. We have to address the cause of the problem which lies in our social set up and values imparted to us.

...all we can do is learn to protect ourselves from these kind of incidents and teach our children to be strong in any given situation.. and become responsible individuals..
